Q) When I retrieve data in WizMag, only the first four weeks of payroll data are retrieved from the company. What's wrong?
A) In our installation guide we recommend making a copy of the company to make data retrieval faster and to make sure that a new report file can be created if needed.
If the copy of the company from WizMag W-2 2008 was selected for this year's WizMag W-2 program, it would only contain about four weeks of payroll data since the copy would have been made after printing employee W-2 forms at the end of January.
To change the company that WizMag is pointing to, click Tasks, Administrative Tasks, then Change Company Path. You will see the same company selection window that appeared when adding the company to WizMag. Choose the correct company and restart WizMag.
Q) When I look at the list of field names and classifications in WizMag, it shows that my pretax insurance is being classified as Addition to Social Security Wages when it should be taking that amount away. How do I list the field as Deduction to Social Security Wages?
A) The classifications Addition to WTOC, Addition to Social Security Wages, Addition to Medicare Wages, Addition to State Taxable Wages and Addition to Local Taxable Wages will add the specified field to the selected wage field.
If the field is a negative number (deductions normally are) then it will subtract the value of the field from the wage field.
If it is positive the field's value will be added to the wage field.
Q) When adding a company to the program, the wrong company was specified. How do I change it to the correct one?
A) To change the company path, go to Tasks, then either Change Company Path or Administrative Tasks-Change Company Path.
Depending on the accounting software being used, you will need to do the following:
QuickBooks Users:
- Specify the location of the company file.
- The program will pull the company name and address from the company data and display it.
- Edit the information if needed and click OK. You will be asked to confirm the information.
- If the file name is different from the previously selected file name you will be notified and asked to confirm your choice.
- Close and restart the WizMag software.
Peachtree Users:
- Click the Browse button (will be labeled with Browser or '...') and locate the datapath for the company. This is the path of the company without the company folder. As an example, if your company is located at P:\Company\YourCompany then you will select P:\Company.
- WizMag will then go through each folder inside of the selected path and display any companies that it finds.
- Choose the desired company from the list. When a company is selected the folder it is stored in will be displayed under the list of companies.
- Click OK.
- The program will pull the company name and address from the company data and display it.
- Edit the information if needed and click OK. You will be asked to confirm the information.
- If the file name is different from the previously selected file name you will be notified and asked to confirm your choice.
- Close and restart the WizMag software.
Q) I use Peachtree accounting software, and installed WizMag W-2 2009. When I try to add a company, it wants me to specify a QuickBooks company path. I'm not running QuickBooks. How do I get WizMag to recognize that I am running Peachtree?
A) When installing WizMag, one of the steps is to specify which accounting package to use: QuickBooks or Peachtree. QuickBooks is the default choice on this step.
If QuickBooks was specified and you use Peachtree, you will need to close WizMag and open Control Panel in Windows. From there go to Add/Remove Programs (2000/XP) or Remove a Program (Vista/7) and remove WizMag E W-2 2009. After the program has been removed, reinstall WizMag W-2, making sure to choose Peachtree.
Q) When I am in the Process Wizard window, I chose to make a state report. I then went to state selection and it showed my state. However on the bottom of the window it showed that the state is not yet selected. How to I get past this to create my report?
A) On the state selection portion of the Process Wizard window, drop down the list of states (even if you only have one state) and select the state from the list. The selected state on the bottom of the window will change to the state that was chosen from the list. The Create W-2 item will then be enabled so that your report can be created.
Q) When processing the W-2 reports, I get the following message:
@CountryID: string truncation: max=2, len=13, value='United States'
What can I do to make this error go away?
A) When updating information from your company, WizMag attempts to determine what country code to use for the country listed for each employee. If it can not find a match it leaves the country as-is.
To determine which employee has the issue, run an Employee List report, making sure to show at least an employee ID, name and country. Edit any employee that has the country in question and make it blank. Afterwards retrieve data in WizMag from your company.
When first looking at the Guide for WizMag E W-2 2009 you may ask yourself "where did the navigation buttons go?".
The Guide and Process Wizard have been updated for 2009. The various items can be selected in any order as long as any needed items are completed. As an example, when first starting the program only the Update data item is enabled. After data is retrieved from your accounting package the Configure Company selection is enabled.
